I am a strong person, and I have always felt pretty good about myself. But, at 279 lbs., there were a lot of things about me that I didn’t like. I have two daughters, ages 5 and 16, and keeping up with them was so hard, especially with my rambunctious 5-year-old. She was my motivation, because I knew something had to change if I wanted to keep up with her.
My weight was affecting my life in a number of ways. I was embarrassed of the way I looked. I was embarrassed for my teenage daughter to introduce me to her friends; I was even embarrassed for my husband to see my body. I tried every diet conceivable, but I still felt helpless and alone. I didn’t want to be unhealthy and overweight anymore, so I started to research the LAP-BAND® System. I spent a year and a half researching the system and surgeons, and after meeting with Dr. Malley, I knew he was the right physician for my surgery.
I've always been overweight. Every time I'd lose weight, it would just come back, and it seemed nothing I did would help. I was ready for something drastic, but I saw other weight-loss surgeries fail. After some research I decided to attend the free seminar with Dr. Malley. He was very professional and honest with me, and I was with him 100 percent.
My weight was affecting my health so much that I was taking medication for everything from high cholesterol and acid reflux to diabetes. I had a standing doctor’s appointment every month just for all the medication I was taking. I was always tired, and it seemed like I was sick all the time.
