At Malley Surgical Weight Loss Center, we understand that it takes time for people to sign up for an actual seminar and come to our office to hear one of our physicians speak. That's why we decided to bring our seminar to you - online! Follow our easy 2-step process below:

Step 2: Take our brief quiz and complete our patient information form

Once you have completed watching the video above, we ask that you take a short quiz to see what you have learned from the video. We will also collect some personal information which will be sent to our office upon completion. Once you have completed the quiz call our office to schedule your consultation with Dr. Stephen Malley or Dr. Nicole Fearing. One of our surgeons will meet with you and help you decide if weight loss surgery is the right answer for you.

  • Required Waiting Periods for Bariatric Surgery Offer No Additional Benefits

    A study conducted by researchers at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, revealed that mandatory waiting periods before bariatric surgery provide no significant difference for the patient. Results of the study were presented at the 27th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

    Waiting periods, or mandated medical programs, are often required by insurance companies. Patients in mandated medical programs (MMPs) receive nutritional and psychological counseling for up to six months to prepare them for the physical and emotional challenges of surgery. They are also required to be under a doctor's care for six months prior to surgery. Read More  

  • Weight-loss surgery decreases risk of diabetes during pregnancy

    Women who undergo weight-loss surgery before becoming pregnant have a lower risk of developing gestational diabetes, according to a study published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.

    Gestational diabetes is a form of the disease that arises during pregnancy and usually resolves after childbirth. It can cause abnormal growth in the fetus, which can sometimes make a cesarean section necessary, and can also raise the risk of bleeding after delivery. Women who develop diabetes during pregnancy also have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. Read More
