I was told that all bread, rice, and pasta are not allowed with the lap band system. Is this true? I know you would want to limit carb intake but totally cutting them out is what I question.

You will hear this A LOT, but it is soooooo true

YOUR MILEAGE WILL VARY

THICK DOUGHY Bread tends to NOT go through a properly adjusted band.

I have pretty good restriction so NO, things with high gluten content tend to swell and clog up and let me say.. THANK YOU THANK YOU for that because if I COULD eat pizza, I WOULD!

But restriction is a fickle beast..... various things will affect it.

for instance yesterday I ate a lunch sized tostada, some chips and salsa, and my refried beans.... THIS IS WAY WAY WAY more than I can usually eat....

Things that seem to "swell my band"
1. Time of month (If I'm on my period I'm tighter)
2. Time of day. (I tend to be tighter in the mornings due to my stomach lining being thicker) So I drink my coffee and have yogurt, oatmeal or other mushy foods for breakfast
3. STRESS Level (If I'm stressed I can not eat much of anything)

Something else that gives me problems (because I'm a speed eater and I don't chew well) is lettuce.. because it wilts and doesn't break down....

So what's a day like for me......

B: Coffee w/ sugar free creamer
Maybe Oatmeal, Yogurt, or OHYeah wafer
L: Wendy's chili, leftovers, soup, chicken salad, etc.. with a few crackers
D: Anything cooked in a crock pot, or if we go out (Mexican) a few chips and either a)chicken tortila soup, b)1 taco, c)1 tostada, or a d)side of beans and a few chips..... (which is why I kind of freaked out with how much I ate during yesterdays lunch)

The quantities go down so that naturally reduces calories, carbs, sugar, fat, etc..... I know that if I FOCUSED on a lower carb higher protein way of eating I would be down even further, but I don't go all hog wild on it... as my family eats out a lot and I like food.... oh and I need to mention that I AIM for 90 ozs of water per day, but I struggle with it... as I forget to drink.. and yes there have been days were I actually got busy and FORGOT TO EAT........ this my friends is as amazing as it is priceless....

(preband, when I would hear some skinny person say this I would scoff and say... "YEAH RIGHT, come here and let me slap you upside the head with a piece of pizza!" or I would THINK IT REAL HARD! )
GOOD LUCK
