Less than one week to go! 2 Years, 11 Months ago
It's been over two years since I've posted here. I was ready to go two years ago and then my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer and died within 6 months. Obviously, I wasn't emotionally able to undertake this journey then. But now I am!

My surgery is scheduled for next week, March 12th at Menorah. I am SO ready for this! I'm doing fine on the pre-op diet and I know I've lost some weight already. I already feel and act a little differently. I have confidence now because I have finally taken control of my life. And at age 53, it's about time.

I have about 200 lbs to lose. Gosh, that's seems incredible. Literally, I am going to lose "half of me". I have high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and depression. Fortunately, I am not diabetic but I'm heading that way. Time to get healthy.

I lurk around here and read all your postings. I'll be more active after surgery!

Wish me luck and I'm glad to be hopping on the BandWagon!

Gene

Congratulations to you for finally getting around to getting the band.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband but you made a wise decision to wait. The band will take alot of effort on your part. Remember that this is a tool, you still have to do most of the work. But believe me, having this tool makes it a whole lot easier. I like you had a large amount to lose and I'm winning the battle. I've had a few setbacks but have found it easy to get right back on track. Currently I am attending the support group meetings (which I highly recommend), and I am also doing the "Reboot". When you recover from your surgery and you feel good. I strongly urge you to sign up for the "Reboot". It's a lot of work and sweat but alot of fun.

Good Luck to you.

Congrats Gene. Way to go for you. Come out to one of the bandwagon support group meetings. We would all love to meet you there and help anyway we can.

Welcome, Gene! I'm so sorry for the loss of your hubby, but excited that you have hopped back on the "bandwagon" with us! It truly will be a life changing experience for you. I've had my band since November and have done absolutely great. Our "stories" are very similiar as far as starting points and co-morbidities -- just know that even though we have alot to lose, patients like us can and ARE successful with the band, just as the folks who have less to lose. I went to my first informational meeting a year ago right now and began the approval process then. Here I am a year later 80 pounds lighter and so grateful for my band. The support group meetings at New Hope are wonderful, and our surgeon is wonderful, too! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks for the encouraging words! I did have my surgery on March 12th and I'm dong wonderfully so far. I feel better than I have in a long time and haven't experienced any nausea or vomiting! I'm on soft foods now but in a few days can start to eat what I want and I'm looking forward to chewing again. I am very pleased. I love Dr. Malley and all the staff who have been so helpful. I will be attending some support meetings so I look forward to meeting you all! I've lost 20 lbs so far!
